Hardy Sirrus Double-Handed Fly Rod
Ian Whitelaw, another Hardy
fan, tells a tale.
“I bought a Sirrus for my trip of a lifetime to Mongolia, because it
simply seemed the best rod I could afford. Out there, it performed
magnificently. I loved the lightness of the thirteen-footer and its very
forgiving nature. I’d never used a double-hander before with any
seriousness and it simply shrugged off my mistakes. But I soon found the
rod had spirit too. My first forty-pound taimen was proof enough of
that. After the trip, I put the rod back in its very smart (although by
now a bit battered) tube and thought I’d be forgetting about it for a
while.
“What I didn’t know was that I’d soon be moving to British Columbia.
I’ve had Pacific salmon of all sizes and species and steelhead big
enough to bite your head off on my Sirrus, and it has come through
unscathed. In truth, there have been times when very big fish have
pushed up through swollen water and I could have done with something
just a bit meatier. So, guess what, I’ve ordered a fifteen-footer.” |
